Santiago Sainz-Trápaga is pleased to welcome you to visit BIRDING CHUBUT!

perfilSantiago Sainz-Trápaga was born in Trelew, Chubut, Argentine Patagonia. He loves nature, wildlife and especially the birds of Patagonia. His studies comprise tourism, diving, boating, birding and photography (www.santiagosainztrapaga.com). Tireless trekker of the steppe, he is well acquainted with the Patagonian environment (land and sea) like few other people. He has taken part in different projects and scientific papers on ornithology, thus contributing to the knowledge of the birdlife in Patagonia. As a member of the wildlife film company Lyra Films Wildlife Productions, he works with the camera, production and script.

In 2011 Santiago founded the company CHANPA TOURS & BIRDWATCHING offering bird-watching boat tours on the Chubut River. To the present day, Chanpa Tours is the only local company with a license for this kind of tours, which give an insight of the river that lends its name to the province of Chubut, and its natural environment.

In 2014 he published the bilingual bird guide “Aves del Noreste de Chubut” (English-Spanish), an essential tool for those who visit the Area of Peninsula Valdes.

In 2015 he participated in the “Birding Challenge 2015” obtaining the first place for Patagonia in the 2 categories: 1) Most species sighted and 2) Most species documented, and also won the Big Year 2016 (Ecoregistros) for the province of Chubut, proving his ability and knowledge in finding different bird species in the Patagonian territory.
In BIRDING CHUBUT Santiago invites you to discover the birds of the whole Peninsula Valdes region. Here you will find the best way to organize your birding tours either by the steppe, valley, Chubut River and/or coasts of the province of Chubut.

"In August 2013 we made a nature photography trip through Argentina and had the pleasure to be guided by Santiago Sainz-Trápaga on the Chubut River , a magnificent experience indeed. Close observation of Coypu and Magellan Geese, indigenous to the southern part of South America, yielded very nice photographic opportunities. www.janvandergreef.com "

"Santiago took me birding along the Chubut Valley. He picked me up at my hotel in Trelew and showed me a wide variety of birds, several of which were lifers for me. He was extremely well-informed about these and their habitats, and obviously knew the area very well. Highly recommendable. Great guy too – we shared a beer or two, and had a wonderful day’s birding."

Martin Eayrs - birdwatcher, England.

"We had a fantastic trip in Argentina and greatly enjoyed our visit to Chubut, which was much too short. I'm sure I'll visit Valdes again one day. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and special places with us. Thanks too for your useful guide; it was a wonderful momento, the three days. Best regards, Dennis."

Dennis Cope - Birdwatcher - South Africa

"My husband and I spent two full days exploring the wildlife of Chubut with Santiago as our private guide. He was extremely knowledgeable about the birds and animals to be found, where and when to find them and how to make the most of the limited time we had to explore the whole area. We enjoyed both days thoroughly and added many new species (“lifers”) to our list. Santiago came highly recommended and he lived up to all our expectations...great guide and lots of wildlife!"

Dwight and Barbara - Birdwatchers - Canada

Meet some of our best friends!

Birds from different orders and families are distributed in Peninsula Valdes region. Many of these species are permanent residents of Patagonia and other species migrate to the area for the breeding season. Patagonia it is also used as a wintering area for species that breed in the northern hemisphere and come to this latitudes to spend their “austral summer”, where they have better food availability than in their breeding areas during the artic winter. Meet some of the best BIRDING CHUBUT friends!
